3 Reasons Why Tree Stumps Should Be Removed As Part of Tree Removal

Not removing a stump after a tree has been cut down could result in issues with safety and liability, unwanted tree growth, and an invasion of insects.

Let's start with Liability
Children playing or people moving about your yard could trip over roots growing from the stump resulting in an injury.

Also soil around the stump will settle causing ground depressions which could cause someone to trip and fall.

Continued Tree Growth
Even though the tree has been removed, the remaining stump can generate new growth including root growth. This can be be destructive not only to your yard, but to sewer lines, water pipes, even concrete areas. New growth will also deplete nutrients from the ground resulting in the decline of lawn and plants.  Grass is the most vulnerable. Grass will often die for lack of water, and trying to water it will only provide more water to the new growth from the stump resulting in the grass dying.

Insects & Other Undesirables
Tree stumps are known for attracting insects and other undesirables. We know that termites can be destructive to wood structures. They may live in the tree stump and when they have outgrown their place of residence, will move to your house.

Trees can also be an easy target for disease and infestations. When a tree stump is diseased, the disease could spread to surrounding live trees.

Removal of tree stumps will increase the safety of your property and reduce liability issues. Removal will also improve the appearance of your property. The benefits of tree stump removal far exceed the cost.
