Why Tree Stumps & Roots Gotta Go

A Tree Stump's Life After Tree Removal

Once a tree is removed, you should have the stump and roots removed. If left in the ground, the stump and roots will start to rot making a great breeding ground for pests, fungi, and other organisms. And often, the roots will keep growing, eventually reaching other areas of your property including buildings, wrapping around pipes, causing driveways, walkways and patios to crack and bulge, and possibly cracking your home's foundation.

Tree Stumps & Exposed Roots Can Be Hazardous

Whether you are walking or playing in your yard, there is always a chance of tripping and falling and getting seriously injured.

While working in your yard, you will need to work around stumps and exposed roots to avoid damaging your lawnmower, hitting the stump and roots and getting injured.

Stumps & Curb Appeal

Tree stumps and roots are often considered eyesores and reduce the curb appeal and property value of your home. When you decide to sell, you might find that potential buyers may not be interested in buying due to stumps and roots that need to be removed.

As part of preparing your property for sale, remove the stump and replace it with a flower bed, fire pit, or lawn furniture. The space could be left clear for a hazard-free playground.

New Tree Growth

Tree stumps can produce new tree growth. If you have other plants nearby, the stump with shoots can steal nearby plants' moisture and nutrients. If a tree grows back from a stump, you might see a multi-trunk tree which would be difficult to remove.

How to Remove a Tree Stump

There are two methods for removing a tree stump: stump grinding and stump removal.

Stump Grinding

The most efficient way of removing a tree stump is by grinding. We use a machine with a rotating cutting disk to chip away at the tree stump which shreds down into small wood chips. Our customers often use these chips to mulch their gardens.

Tree roots left underground will eventually die and decay over time. If the roots have pulled up above ground, they should be removed to reduce hazardous conditions.

Stump Removal

The common method for removing a stump is to pull out the entire stump and root system. Another option for stump removal is to burn it or dissolve it with chemicals.
