Why You Should Remove Deadwood & Trim Your Trees

Trees don't always age gracefully.  Deadwood is often found in mature trees due to the heartwood of the branch being hollow and having fungai. Water accumulation within the heartwood can result in fungus and decay leading to trunk rot.
  • Storms and disease can reduce the amount of sap or water in a tree causing decay of its bark resulting in branches and limbs dying.
  • When a dead limb or branch breaks off during a thunderstorm, the heartwood of the tree is exposed opening the door to insect invasion.
  • Large amounts of deadwood ruin the overall beauty of a tree. It can also prevent wind from blowing through the tree which could result in damage to the tree.
  • Deadwood can also limit the tree's ability to grow into its full shape.
  • By removing deadwood, the risk of limbs falling on your home or car is greatly reduced.
Understanding why a tree has deadwood is important to its health and longevity. Honey Cove Landscape & Tree Services will examine your trees that appear to have a problem and suggest the appropriate treatment.

Each spring, you should check your trees' health. Look for broken limbs or branches, hollow spots in the trunk, fungus, oozing, leaf color, and upheaval of soil /roots or if the tree has started to lean.
